Today, I’m going to talk to you about getting the right image to show up when you post your link on Facebook. You may have noticed that sometimes, when you post one of your links, it just gets a really basic URL and there’s no picture, no nice description. So, here is just one way on how you can get Facebook to show what you want, and I think is the easiest way.

I’m using the Yoast SEO plug-in, which is free and something that you should probably have on your blog anyways because it is awesome for getting your SEO right. So, here I am on — this is my personal blog and I just got this one post finished. So, I’m going to scroll down here to the end and I’m going to get to my Yoast box. The front box is your basic SEO settings, which I have another video explaining all these. But, today, we’re going to focus on the Social tab. So, you see here at the end there’s one that says Social, and it tells you right here this is going to be the Facebook title, this will be the description, this will be the image. So, I’m just going to go over here and I’m going to grab this text so you can see. And I’m going to grab my little Meta description. We’ll put it right here. And you’re just going to hit the upload image and this will bring up your media browser so you can grab one of the images that you’ve already used for the blogpost. So, I’m just going to grab this one. I’m going to use that and, then, we’re just going to hit Update. So, we wait for that to update. And then once it’s done updating — just a little slow right now. Always fun when you’re doing a demo. Copy the link. I’m going to go over to Facebook and post it right here, and you’ll see I have my nice little title with my nice little description, and my photo. So, that is how you can do it.

Sometimes, it will grab the wrong photo, especially if you have a photo that is designated as a featured image. Sometimes, you can have a little fighting between those two. One way to kind of get around that too is, if it’s not pulling up the right image, you can put it through this Facebook debugger. You can find that in the Developer section under Tools and Support and it’s called the URL debugger. Once it loads  you put it through your link in here, it kind of goes through and it shows you what Facebook sees when you post this image or post that link. So, if you kind of put it in here, and you can kind of debug it basically, and clear the cache for Facebook for this post. So, sometimes, that will help if it’s still not showing.

And that’s how you do it. Happy Facebook posting.
