Why should I move my Blogger site to WordPress

blogger-to-wordpress

Like many when you are starting out blogging you probably go with a free version of what is out there and for many bloggers that means you are on Google’s Blogger platform. Now don’t get me wrong Blogger is still a great platform but WordPress does have a few advantages over Blogger. Why should you switch over to WordPress.org (self hosted version)? Here are a few of what I consider major comparisions:

Design and Functionality

WordPress is an open source platform that has been around for many years, because of that there are thousands (if not millions) of different plug-ins and templates that you can choose from. You don’t even have to know any HTML to be able to add complex functionality.

With Blogger Googles owns you

When you are using Blogger you are under their terms. They can, at any time, terminate you and you lose your blog without any warning.

SEO – Search Engine Optimization

WordPress offers more options for optimizing your blog for search engines.

Looking beyond now

Google at any time can end the Blogger service, while I don’t see this happening any time soon it still is possible. Selling your blog is also prohibited on the blogger platform.

23.2% of ALL websites are on the WordPress platform, and this number grows every year.

How to get there

Now going with a WordPress.org site does cost a little. You need a domain name and hosting. If you are going to want to monetize on your blog or need more than basic functions then I would definitely suggest going over to WordPress. There are many more possibilities on how your blog can grow.

There are a few different ways you can use to get your blog moved over. Move it manually using the blogger importer or hire someone to do it for you.
